Japanese representatives present an indemnity for the shelling of foreign shipping in Shimonoseki. The shelling eventually led to the Shimonoseki Campaign (下関戦争/馬関戦争, Shimonoseki Senso/Bakan Senso) in 1863 (Bunkyo 3) and 1864.

Published in The Illustrated London News of December 2, 1865. Original text: “The envoys of the Japanese prince of Nagato paying the indemnity for the affair of Simonosaki.” (sic)
