Plan of “Geku Temple at Ise” (Outer Shrine at Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture) from Murray’s Handbook for Travellers in Japan by Basil Hall Chamberlain and W. B. Mason, 1903. Ise Jingu features two main shrines: the Naiku (Inner Shrine), dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami, and the Geku (Outer Shrine), dedicated to Toyouke Omikami, deity of housing, food and clothing.
