70116-0002 - Kitahama

Osaka Taisho 1920s Unknown
This postcard from the 1920s shows Osaka’s business district of Kitahama and the local government seat on Nakanoshima, an island sandwiched between the Dojima and Tosabori Rivers. Osaka has already been thoroughly modernized. Two buildings with towers can be seen. The one on the right is the District Court. The other one Osaka City Hall. It was said that the City Hall tower was built to make City Hall look just a little higher than the nearby District Court

The tall structure in the middle of the image is the Kitahama Building (北浜ビルジング).
