Kobe Meiji 1870s Unknown
A beautiful view of a yet very rural Kobe from Mount Takatori (高取山, Takatorisan), early 1870s. The line of trees in the center is the Minatogawa River. Beyond that is Kobe Harbor and the Foreign Settlement. Across the bay, the mountains of Osaka and Nara can be seen.

I spent several days hiking in the mountains of Kobe to find the exact location where the photographer stood to take this photograph and discovered it was on Mount Takatori.
