A young man performs kyudo (Japanese archery) at Sanjusangendo, a Buddhist temple in Higashiyama, Kyoto, famous for its one thousand life-size statues. The name literally means Hall with thirty three spaces between columns. The main deity is the Thousand Armed Kannon.
