Outside Meiji 1900s Kozaburo Tamamura
Tea Ceremony: The hostess greets her guests. This image comes from “The Ceremonial Tea Observance in Japan,” published in 1907 (Meiji 40) by photographer Kozaburo Tamamura, and later by Teijiro Takagi.

Original text: “The hostess appears and graciously pays homage to her visitors, the latter paying their respects. The guests are invited to adjourn to the tea-room. As a rule, the tea-house is also a separate structure, and in no way connected with the dwelling itself.”
