110706-0003 - Log Raft

Kyoto Taisho 1910s Unknown
Two men navigate a log raft at the Kanagi Rapids (金岐の瀬) of Hozugawa River (保津川) in Kyoto. For centuries the river was used to transport goods like rice, barley, wheat, charcoal and timber. But from 1895 (Meiji 28), the 2 hour trip down the river became a popular tourist attraction (Hozugawa Kudari).
