| The Ernie Pyle Theater, formerly the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater (東京宝塚劇場) in Hibiya, Tokyo, February 1947 (Showa 22). Lots of military vehicles, mostly jeeps, are visible.
The theater was built in 1934 (Showa 7) and demolished in 1998 (Heisei 10). It was taken over by GHQ of the American Occupation Forces after the end of WWII and renamed “Ernie Pyle Theater” from 1945 (Showa 20) through 1955 (Showa 30).
Ernie Pyle (1900-1945) was a Pulitzer Prize–winning American journalist, especially well-known for his war-time reports. He was killed during the Battle of Okinawa.
