Yokohama Meiji 1870s Unknown

Japanese police officers in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on their way to Satsuma (薩摩, current Kagoshima) to fight forces rebelling against the emperor during the Satsuma Rebellion (西南戦争, Seinan Senso) in 1877 (Meiji 10). The rebellion was lead by the influential samurai Takamori Saigo (西郷隆盛, 1828–1877). Published in The Illustrated London News on October 13, 1877 (Meiji 10).
