Tokyo Bakumatsu 1850s Utagawa Hiroshige

Plum blossom at Umeyashiki, a plum garden by the banks of the Sumidagawa River in Kameido, Edo (current Tokyo),1857 (Ansei 4).

This is one of the Hiroshige prints that Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) painted copies of to study the elements that he admired in Japanese woodblock prints.

This woodblock print is image 30 in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (名所江戸百景, Meisho Edo Hyakkei), a series created by ukiyoe artist Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重, 1797–1858).

It is one of 42 spring scenes in the series.
