The former residence of Japanese poet Matsuo Basho (松尾芭蕉, 1644–1694) and the Sekiguchi Aqueduct in Edo (current Tokyo), 1857 (Ansei 4). This woodblock print is image 40 in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (名所江戸百景, Meisho Edo Hyakkei), a series created by ukiyoe artist Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重, 1797–1858). It is one of 42 spring scenes in the series. Title: Basho’s Hermitage on Tsubakiyama along the Aqueduct at Sekiguchi (せき口上水端はせを庵椿やま, Sekiguchi josuibata Bashoan Tsubakiyama) IMPORTANT Maximum file size: 33.4MB (4125 × 2825 pixels).
