Tokyo Bakumatsu 1850s Utagawa Hiroshige

View of the moat and the Hanzomon Gate (半蔵門) of Edo Castle in Edo (current Tokyo) during the Sanno Matsuri (山王祭), still one of Tokyo’s three most famous festivals, 1856 (Ansei 3).

This woodblock print is image 51 in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (名所江戸百景, Meisho Edo Hyakkei), a series created by ukiyoe artist Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重, 1797–1858).

It is one of 30 summer scenes in the series.
