Tokyo Bakumatsu 1850s Utagawa Hiroshige

View on Edo Bay in Edo (current Tokyo), 1857 (Ansei 4).

The shadow of a woman, apparently a high class courtesan, can be seen on the fusama screen on the left. Her kimono is partly visible on the tatami mat floor.

This woodblock print is image 82 in One Hundred Famous Views of Edo (名所江戸百景, Meisho Edo Hyakkei), a series created by ukiyoe artist Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重, 1797–1858).

It is one of 26 autumn scenes in the series.
