160310-0004 - Exhibition of Japan's Progress

Gifu Showa 1930s Unknown

Advertising postcard for the Great Exhibition of Rapid Japanese Progress (躍進日本大博覧会, Yakushin Nihon Daihakurankai) held at Gifu Park (岐阜公園) in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture from March 25 to May 15, 1936 (Showa 11).

The expo attracted 1,932,000 visitors.

As Gifu is famous for cormorant fishing, the bird played an important role in the promotion of the event. There were even regular demonstrations of cormorant fishing. These were held during the daytime instead of at night, which is the usual way to fish with cormorants.
