Japanese wartime propaganda from the late 1930s with an illustration of a playing child and its sewing mother.

Card 1 of a series of 7 postcards intended to promote home front civilian support for the Japanese military.

Japanese text:

『銃後の護りは堅し』
手柄をたてて帰るまで
後はたのむと出たからは
銃はとらぬが 務は重い
さあさ護ろう國と家

English translation:

“Solid Home Front Defense”
My husband departed home
Saying he would not come home
Until he achieves succes on the battlefield
Although not carrying a rifle
I have an important duty, too
Let us defend our country and home
