Artwork to promote the 31st ocean voyage (第三十一次遠洋航海) of the Japanese training Vessel Shintoku Maru (進徳丸) in 1940 (Showa 15). After completion at the Mitsubishi Shipyard in Kobe in March 1924 (Taisho 13), the 2700-ton 4-masted barquentine was used by the Kobe Nautical College (神戸高等商船学校). On June 24, 1945 (Showa 20), she was sunk outside Nitomi Port (二東見港) in Hyogo Prefecture during an airstrike. In August 1946, she was raised and repaired. She remained in service again as a training ship through March 1965 (Showa 40). Text on card: 進徳丸 第三十一次遠洋航海 |
