Outside Taisho 1910s Unknown

Japanese propaganda postcard featuring a satirical caricature expressing the government’s concerns about the perceived dangers of foreign ideology (generally conceived to be communism).

Published sometime between March 1907 (Meiji 40) and March 1918 (Taisho 7).

The illustration shows a blindfolded man holding a smoking bomb containing “foreign ideology that ignores the national polity” (国体無視の外来思想).

In front of him is a circle with the text “our radiant country” (光輝ある我が國體).

Japanese text: 危なき選擇 (Dangerous choice”)
