This boutique agency is build around the Kjeld Duits Collection, a large private collection of old photos of Japan between the 1860s and 1930s. The collection consists of albumen prints, collotype prints, glass slides and negatives, silver gelatin prints, stereo views, postcards and more. This is augmented with images from other collections
With a strong focus on daily life and townscapes, MeijiShowa images offer a view of a Japan that has long since vanished.
We have many tens of thousands of images in our offline archive. As of February 20, 2024, a total of 6469 images have been archived and uploaded to this site:
