Map of the Tokyo Taisho Exhibition (東京大正博覧会会場全景, Tokyo Taisho Hakurankai Kaijo Zenkei) held from March 20 through July 31, 1914 (Taisho 3) in Ueno Park, Tokyo. The aim of the exhibition was to encourage industry and to “confer blessings on the new government.” The huge exhibition (562,700 square meters) included Japan’s first cable car for entertainment and attracted some 7,463,000 visitors. A fun tidbit: brightly colored carps (Hirogoi), hardly known outside Niigata, were first introduced to the public at this event. Title of map: Panoramic View of the Tokyo Taisho Exhibition Grounds (Tokyo Taisho Hakurankai Kaijo Zenkei). |
