Kyoto | Taisho | 1920s | |
A Tayuu (太夫, high class prostitute) from the Shimabara Yukaku (red light district) in Kyoto in her gorgeous kimono. This card comes from a series named Miyako Fuuzoku (都風俗), which interestingly can be translated both as Customs of the Capital, and Sex Services of the Capital. I know of one case were cards of this series were purchased in 1929, so the cards date from this year or earlier, but not later. |
