Nagasaki | Meiji | 1870s | Kuichi Uchida |
Amidabashi (Amida Bridge) over Nagasaki’s Zeniyagawa (Zeniya River, nowadays called Nakashimagawa), photographed in 1872 (Meiji 5). See blog entry. This photo is generally attributed to Adolfo Farsari, dated between 1883 and 1897. But the International Research Center for Japanese Studies in Kyoto features an Uchida Photo Studio album (YA033) with this photo. This means it was photographed in 1872 (Meiji 5), when Kuichi Uchida (内田 九一, 1844–1875) visited Nagasaki while accompanying a tour of Emperor Meiji. |
