Inside | Meiji | 1870s | Genzo Kanamaru |
A young woman in kimono and traditional hairstyle sits next to a hakohibachi, a brazier encased in a wooden box. On her right lies a shamisen, a three-stringed musical instrument. I have seen this image attributed to Genzo Kanamaru (1832-?). But this is the same woman as in 70208-0015 – Woman in Kimono. As Japanese photo researcher Rob Oechsle has attributed that image to Baron Raimund von Stillfried (1839–1911), he may also have taken this image. |
