View of artists at work at the workshop of Noboru Nogawa (能川登), a manufacturer and dealer of bronze ware on 22 Shijo Otabicho, Kyoto. The Nogawa workshop was founded in 1825 (Bunsei 8). In addition to the workshop, the company owned showrooms in the Kyoto Hotel and the Miyako Hotel, which attracted mostly a foreign clientele. The workshop was incredibly productive. Its output included garden items, birds, animals, human figures, Buddhas, gongs and bells, vases, lanterns and small pieces. Cloisonné ware, damascene works, ivory carving, lacquer ware, pearls, prints and Satsuma ware were also sold. |
