A rare early Meiji Period (1868-1912) photograph of the Shoukabashi Bridge (松花橋) spanning the Wadamigawa River (和田見川) in the prostitution district of Wadami-shinchi (和田新地遊郭) in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, ca 1880s. Behind the bridge, the shinto shrine Mefu Jinja (賣布神社) can be seen. The river was filled up in the early Showa Period (1926-1989). |
