Buddhist priest praying at Chion-in Temple in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. The temple is the headquarters of the Jodo Shu (Pure Land Sect) founded by Hounen Shounin (法然上人, 1133-1212). The original temple was built in 1234 (天福/Tempuku 2). It has been destroyed and rebuilt several times. Early 1900s.
