Sacred torii gate at Matsunomori Shrine, Nagasaki. Matsunomori Shrine was built in Imahakata-machi. Because the proximity of the red-light district was regarded as impure, the shrine was moved to the site in Shimonishiyama-machi in 1656. The shrine was designated a Tangible Cultural Asset by the Nagasaki Prefecture government in 1956. |
