The Higashi-Mochiya teahouse (茶店東餅屋) at the east side of the Wada Pass (和田峠) on the Nakasendo highway between 1872 (Meiji 5) and 1882 (Meiji 15). Wada was the most difficult pass on the Nakasendo. At its highest point, it reached 1,531 meters (5023 feet). In winter, snow could reach as high as 1.5 meters (5 feet). IMPORTANT |
