Tokyo Meiji 1890s Reiji Esaki
Panoramic view on the Buddhist temple of Sensoji (金龍山浅草寺) in Asakusa, Tokyo. The photographer shot this photograph from Ryounkaku (凌雲閣), Japan’s very first skyscraper, better known as Junikai, or Twelve Stories. As the tower was opened in 1890 (Meiji 23), this photo was taken sometime during the 1890s.
