Kanagawa Meiji 1890s Unknown

Oiso Station (大磯駅), on the Tokaido Main Line, in Oiso, Kanagawa Prefecture. It was opened on July 11, 1887 (Meiji 20).

Oiso Juku was originally a post town on the Tokaido. After the Tokaido Main Line connected the town with Tokyo, it became a very popular seaside health resort for politicians and authors. People like Hirobumi Ito (伊藤博文), Shigenobu Okuma (大隈重信) and Toson Shimazaki (島崎藤村) had summer residences here.
