111003-0029 - Shimosuwa on Lake Suwa

Higashibori (東堀, present-day Okaya City, 岡谷市) and Shimosuwa (下諏訪, in the center of the photo) on Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture.

Shimosuwa was a post town on the Nakasendo highway and the terminal point of the Koshu Kaido, another important highway which connected Tokyo with Yamanashi Prefecture. The mountain range in the right background is Kamanashi-yama (釜無山).
