The Mikado Hotel (ミカドホテル) in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. The hotel was opened in 1897 (Meiji 30) near what was then Kobe Station and moved to this building designed by Kozo Kawai (河合浩蔵, 1856-1934) in 1906 (Meiji 39). Soon after, it became the headquarters of global trading house Suzuki & Co. (鈴木商店本社ビル) because of the hotel owner’s inability to repay his debts. The building was destroyed by fire in 1918 (Taisho 7). |
