The Festival of the Ages (時代祭り, Jidai Matsuri), a costume procession representing different eras of Kyoto history, in Kyoto. Held annually on October 22, it is one of Kyoto’s three great festivals. To inaugurate the first Jidai Matsuri in 1895 (Meiji 28), the Heian Shrine (平安神宮, Heian jingu) was built to enshrine the spirit of Emperor Kanmu. | |||
