General Staff Headquarters (参謀本部, sanbouhonbu), Japan’s military headquarters, in Nagatacho, Tokyo as seen from the Sakuradamon Gate (桜田門) at the Imperial Palace. Designed by Italian architect Giovanni Vincenzo Cappelletti (1843-1887, ジョヴァンニ・ヴィンチェンツォ・カッペレッティ), the building was used from 1881 (Meiji 14) until 1945 (Showa 20), when it was destroyed by allied bombing.
