Yokohama | Meiji | 1890s | Kimbei Kusakabe |
The small island of Nojima (野島) in Hiragata Bay (平潟湾) at the Kanazawa (金沢) district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Japanese woodblock artist Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重, 1797-1858) celebrated the area’s stunning views in his beautiful series Kanazawa Hakkei (金沢八景, Eight Views of Kanazawa). The island is now connected to the mainland and part of Yokohama’s Nojimakoen Park (野島公園). |
