Dried fish hang from the eaves of Matsuzakaya grocery store, probably in Yokohama. One of the signs of this rather large store reads, Special Agents for Kanagawa Prefecture. The other signs advertise Katsuobushi Dokoro (dried bonito flakes) and Sarashikuri Mizuame (bleached chestnut syrup). There is a great variety of foods on display: salted salmon, seaweed, squid, shrimps, other dried food as well as miso (soybean paste) and tsukemono (pickles). The boys are most likely live-in employees. |
