Tokyo Meiji 1880s Kimbei Kusakabe

Bentendo Temple (弁天堂) temple on Bentenjima Island (弁天島) in Shinobazu Pond (不忍池, Shinobazu no Ike) at Ueno Park in Tokyo. In front, part of the horse race course can be seen, the first one in the capital. The first race took place in November, 1884 (Meiji 17). Races were organized every spring and summer until 1892 (Meiji 25).
