A woman in kimono uses a Hishaku (ladle) to splash water over the hands of another woman who is washing her hands. The two woman are sitting on the porch of a private house. Washing hands (Temizu) is an important purification ritual when entering shinto shrine grounds, but was also done upon entering a private home.
