Hakone | Meiji | 1890s | Unknown |
Hakone Imperial Villa (箱根離宮) in Hakone. It consisted of a Japanese and Western style building and was completed in 1886 (Meiji 19). The villa was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (Taisho 12) and the Kita Izu Earthquake (北伊豆地震) of 1930 (Showa 5). In 1946 (Showa 21), the ruins were gifted to Kanagawa Prefecture, which opened the area as Onshi-Hakone-Koen Park. In 1959 (Showa 34), it became a prefectural park (県立恩賜箱根公園). IMPORTANT |
