Studio Taisho 1910s Unknown

Three young Japanese women in kimono and traditional hairdo are playing Hanafuda. One of the women holds a fan.

The game inspired Kyoto businessman Fusajiro Yamauchi to found Nintendo Koppai in 1889 to produce hand-crafted Hanafuda cards painted on mulberry tree bark. The company is of course now better known for its computer games.
