People are enjoying a day at the beach in Oiso (大磯) in Kanagawa Prefecture. Oiso Juku was originally a post town on the Tokaido. After the Tokaido Main Line railway connected the town with Tokyo in 1887 (Meiji 20), it became a very popular seaside health resort for politicians and authors. People like Hirobumi Ito (伊藤博文), Shigenobu Okuma (大隈重信) and Toson Shimazaki (島崎藤村) had summer residences here. IMPORTANT |
