140916-0177-PP - Oura Foreign Settlement

Panoramic view of Oura (大浦) and Sagarimatsu (下り松) in the Foreign Settlement in Nagasaki from the precinct of the present Showakai Hospital (昭和会病院). The waterway slightly hidden in the center is the Ouragawa River (大浦川). Matsugaebashi Bridge (松ヶ枝橋) and Bentenbashi Bridge (弁天橋), both built in 1889 (Meiji 22), appear not to have been built yet, dating this image to shortly before this date. On the hill in the center of the image, the square building of the Belle Vue Hotel (ベルビューホテル) is visible.
