70219-0027 - Thatched Roofs

Outside Meiji 1880s Kozaburo Tamamura
Small houses with thatched roofs line a deserted highway. A lone rickshaw stands in front of the house, most probably the one used by the photographer. This photo is identified as Kashiwabara on the Tokaido, but researchers at Nagasaki University believe that this is a village on the Tanuma Kaido, a highway connecting Fujieda, the 53rd station on the Tokaido, with Sagarajo (currently Makinoharashi in Shizuoka Prefecture).
