Famed Japanese baseball player Goro Taniguchi (谷口五郎, 1901-1980) in 1921 (Taisho 10). Taniguchi was the ace of the Waseda University team during the early 1920’s. While in a Soviet prisoner of war camp, he played in a game between alumni of Waseda and Keio universities held in the spring of 1947 (Showa 22). Taniguchi was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 (Showa 54). |
