160301-0018 - Osaka Prefectural Office

Osaka Meiji 1880s Unknown

The Kawaguchi Foreign Settlement (川口居留地, right) in Osaka with the Kizugawa River (木津川), Hatatekurabashi Bridge (端建蔵橋, right), and Kizugawabashi Bridge (木津川橋, center).

The building in the center background is the Prefectural Office on Enokojima (江之子島).

When Osaka became an open port in 1868 (Meiji 1) Kawaguchi was opened for foreign settlement, but it lost in popularity to nearby Kobe.

The Kizugawabashi Bridge on this photograph is the steel bridge opened in September 1876 (Meiji 9).
