Rikushu (boat on land) pine tree (陸舟ノ松) in the garden of the Shoin drawing room (書院の庭園) at the Zen Buddhist temple Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺), also known as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, in Kyoto. Kinkaku-ji was originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. His son, shogun Ashikaga Yoshimochi, converted it into a Zen temple of the Rinzai school. |
