Kobe | Meiji | 1900s | Unknown |
The Bund or Kaigandori in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. The large building on Kaigandori 2 was orginally the office of Walsh Hall & Co, which established a paper mill in Sannomiya. This incidentally grew into the Mitsubishi Paper Mills. In 1881 (Meiji 14), the building was sold to the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, now better known as HSBC. The Oriental Hotel, opened on Kaigandori in 1907, has not yet been built. This postcard is from a series of French cards, photographed sometime between 1902 and 1907. |
