Tokyo Taisho 1910s Nobukuni Enami

A dyer at a Japanese dyeing workshop inspects a stretch of dyed textile.

Especially Kyoto has been famous for its dyeing method, called Kyoyuzen (京友禅染).

The sign behind the man reads 萬染, the first character denoting ten thousand, the second one dyeing.
