Nikko Meiji 1870s Baron Raimund von Stillfried

The road to Nikko at Imaichi (今市) in Tochigi Prefecture. The town was an important transportation link because three main roads met here: the Onari (Nikko) Kaido, Reiheishi Kaido and Aizu Nishi Kaido.

The cedars were donated by the Japanese daimyo Matsudaira Masatsuna (松平正綱, 1576-1648) on the 33rd anniversary of the death of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.
