Outside | Meiji | 1900s | Kozaburo Tamamura |
Two boys having tea at the wayside stand of a tea pedlar. A horse and cart can be seen in the back. Japanese photographer Kozaburo Tamamura featured the same photograph in his book The Tea in Japan, published in 1908 (Meiji 41), conveniently dating this photograph to before this date. This is number 12 in a series of glass slides by the same name. Interestingly, Teijiro Takagi, who took over Tamamura’s business in Kobe, published The Tea in Japan under his own name between 1915 (Taisho 4) and 1927 (Showa 2). Photos had a long life in the early 20th century. |
