Tokyo | Showa | 1950s | Unknown |
Streetcars and cars on the Ginza 4-chome intersection in Tokyo, ca. 1953 (Showa 28). The photographer stood with his back towards the Wako Building and pointed his camera towards 6-chome. The large building on the left is the Matsuzakaya Department Store (松坂屋). In 1924 (Taisho 13), it became the first department store in Japan where customers could keep their shoes on. The store was closed in 2013 (Heisei 25) and reopened in 2017 (Heisei 29) as Ginza Six. |
